After more than 30 years of working in the field of people helping, I have learned a great deal from the people I have gotten to work with over those years:
We all hunger to love and be loved.
We all wish to be cared for and to care.
We all need to belong and matter.
We all thirst for expression of our own identity.
We all desire to be deeply connected to family, especially to spouses and children.
We all crave friendship.
We all seek to be involved in experiences with others that create a positive impact.
We all want to benefit others through worthwhile endeavors that allow us to say, “I shared my gifts and talents for good.”
We all hope to prosper.
We all long to live fully, love deeply, and lead well, so that we leave something good behind which others can treasure.
All of these desires move us toward finding meaning and purpose. They are the things that we are created to need and want. Even more, they reveal how much we need others and God for them to be fulfilled. These desires also speak to how much others need you.
